| ARCTOOLS is a family of purge & archive utilities for the AS/400 & iSeries DB2 and Oracle/Sequel Server databases. Systems slow down as databases grow out of control and companies can be faced with costly hardware upgrades. An alternative is to implement some 'good house-keeping' and consider purging and archiving data. There are a number of options when tacking a purging and archiving project. You can write your own purge programme. Many ERP systems have in-built purge facilities but they require a high level of knowledge of the base data and the inter-relationship between files. These purge facilities can in turn cause problems, as users are locked out of the system and data integrity is impaired. You can use SQL. This can be very risky with the high volume of records to be selected. A safer option is to use ARCTOOLS. ARCTOOLS/400 is the product for the iSeries and ARCTOOLS Enterprise Manager has now been developed for Oracle databases. They allow purging without the need for programming, whilst enabling users to remain on the system. The JD Edwards module was developed in conjunction with the software author and was refined and enhanced by working with customers. The module is designed to purge data from the JD Edwards databases whilst maintaining integrities, both in the production and archive environments. ARCTOOLS allows purges to be stopped and restarted without any detriment to the process. ARCTOOLS/400 can be run over other packages, bespoke and customised databases. Reorg Wizard is the module for re-organising files and hence optimising disk space once purging has taken place. As with ARCTOOLS, users can continue on the system and the process can be stopped and started as required. |
