Solution Profile |
|

Through Oracle9i OLAP, organizations can enjoy all of the benefits of a full featured multidimensional database without incurring the added costs of managing a separate process and data store or the added costs of supporting a separate set of client applications. With the addition of Business Objects, users can fully leverage the OLAP driven analytic performance of Oracle 9i, intuitively apply and create powerful OLAP calculations, and seamlessly drill-through from summarized OLAP to detailed relational data. By standardizing BI and data management on Business Objects and Oracle, customers reduce their total cost of ownership by minimizing multiple integration points and by working with fewer vendors. Business users benefit too as they access information faster, more easily, and more consistently. Resolution of Oracle Database embedded OLAP Relational Views Oracle Database embedded OLAP allows SQL access by innovatively exposing multidimensional cubes as relational views. While the relational view contains cube dimension information, it is essential for the query tool to define metadata such as joins, hierarchies, and levels. This metadata is critical for ensuring proper SQL generation and cube data retrieval, and providing proper business context to business users. Comprehensive Complex Calculation Support With Enterprise 6, users can fully leverage Oracle Database embedded OLAP server-side calculations and create custom local calculations. Within Oracle Database embedded OLAP, users can define rich calculations using powerful financial, regression, statistical, and forecasting functions. With Enterprise 6, these advanced calculations can be defined in the OLAP cube and seamlessly presented to end users as measures that they can query. Enterprise 6 users can also create and manage Oracle Database embedded OLAP functions from outside the OLAP cube. Custom functions can be defined within Business Objects universes and reports. This flexibility allows individual departments, groups, and power users to optionally create and manage calculations, reducing the burden on IT. Critical OLAP and Relational Integration Business users will seldom find all of their information requirements in one data source. With Enterprise 6, users can easily combine and analyze data from both relational and OLAP sources. This capability is especially crucial with OLAP cubes—where aggregated data is stored in the OLAP cubes while detailed data is left in the relational system. For example, the time dimension in an OLAP cube would likely store year, quarter, and month aggregates, while day-level details would remain in the transaction-oriented relational source. In this common scenario, the Enterprise 6 universe can robustly accommodate both the OLAP hierarchies and the relational hierarchies by contextually joining them. Users can transparently drill from the aggregated year, quarter, and month data through to detailed day-level transactions—without needing to worry about the multiple systems and technologies that are being accessed, integrated, and resolved. |
