  Solution Profile

E-mail is simple to use, instant, versatile and reduces costs. Consequently it has become part of daily life for many people. But to benefit from e-mail you need a computer linked to your mail server to download and then read messages. If you are travelling it is more complicated - you need a laptop, have to find a connection and then successfully log on and download your e-mails. This procedure can be difficult, slow and expensive.

A businessman is travelling and needs to check whether he has received a message; he phones the special number, BE VP-eMailReader asks him for identification by entering a code or speaking a password and informs him that he has four new messages The user reads the messages and discovers that the third message has two attachments; he requests these to be read and orders a read attachment to be sent by fax to a specific number. He then ends the call. BE VP-eMailReader comprises a server connected both to a local network to access the e-mail server and to a switchboard to receive calls directed to it. It can respond to several calls simultaneously. The system is managed via the server console BE VP-eMailReader reads messages in various languages, selecting which language to use on the basis of the first words of the text of the message.

  Distinguishing Features
BE VP-eMailReader resolves this problem, making it possible to consult your e-mail inbox by phone: in a car, on a train, in fact anywhere there is a mobile phone signal, even in 'hands-free' mode, you can ask a computer to read your received messages. A user can call his / her provider to activate the service by means of the Vocal Portal or by requesting it by calling the dedicated line. On the first ring, BE VP-eMailReader springs into action: it requests the user to identify him or herself and, once recognised (by means of voice password or tones), states how many new messages there are in the inbox and then starts to read them in chronological order. The user can interact with BE VP-eMailReader using a series of voice commands (or DTMF tones), including: Forward, Back, First, Last, Read, Attachments, Read Attachment, Reply, Send by Fax, Send SMS, Exit. BE VP-eMailReader interfaces with the Oracle Collaboration Suite.
